Many of you may have this skin condition and may not even realize it. Keratosis pilaris is a common skin condition that causes small, light colored bumps on your skin (aka “chicken skin”). These bumps usually form on the upper arms, thighs, and buttocks. Keratosis pilaris is caused by a buildup of keratin, a protein that protects our skin. This build up blocks the hair follicle and causes a bump to form.
This condition is very common in people with dry skin. This condition is usually the worst in the winter months. I used to suffer from this condition when I was younger, and it took me a while to figure out exactly what it was. I used to get these terrible light color bumps all over the back of my arms. I always thought they were small pimples. I used to hate how it looked! For a while I didn’t even want to wear tank tops. Needless to say, I was very happy when I finally found a solution to this skin condition. That is why I want to share with you how to get rid of these terrible skin bumps once and for all!
Finding a good skin exfoliator
The best body scrub/exfoliator that I found is Soap & Glory’s “The Scrub of Your Life” smoothing body scrub. Not only does this body scrub smell amazing, but it really is a miracle worker. It exfoliates your skin so well and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. If you use this scrub consistently you will notice a huge difference in your skin. As an alternative, I have a great recipe for a DIY coconut lime sea salt scrub that you can check out in this post.
Finding a good moisturizer is equally important as an exfoliator. The best moisturizer that I have found is called KP duty by Dermadoctor. I am not going to lie, this lotion does not smell very good, but it is very effective. It is a AHA moisturizer made specifically for people with dry skin and/or kertosis pilaris. It contains a mixture of glycolic acid, green tea extract, and urea to help exfoliate, calm and hydrate the skin.
If you don’t have keratosis pilaris, but you do have dry skin, these products will work for you as well. I know that I am very happy to have found a solution for my own skin condition. If you know someone who has these problems as well, be sure to spread the word! I know I wish someone would have told me about this a long time ago.
