For most people, the hardest part about exercising is actually getting themselves to do it. I used to be one of those people who would come up with every excuse why I couldn’t workout. It wasn’t until I finally started to look and feel a way in which made me feel good about myself, that I actually started to have that love for fitness. The hardest part is that initial uphill battle that you have to work through before you start to see results.
It is so true that exercise doesn’t become a habit until you start seeing results. The problem is, it takes time and dedication for this to happen. Consistency is key when you are looking to reach your goals. Today I want to give you some ways to stay motivated to exercise on a regular basis. These tactics can be used no matter where you are in your fitness journey.
Schedule Your Workouts
This can be done in different ways. A great way to do this is to start a group fitness class. Group fitness classes tend to follow a set schedule. Make it a goal to attend these classes on a regular basis and then you will have all your workouts scheduled out. Another way to do this is to start a program that already has a schedule made up for you. A great example of this are the Beachbody Programs. If you are unfamiliar with Beachbody, they are DVDs meant for at-home workouts and many of them have training schedules that you can follow. I do many of these programs myself, and they have been very effective for me.
Workout With a Friend
It is just a simple fact that you are more likely to stay consistent with something if another person is holding you accountable. Having a workout buddy is a great way to stay motivated to show up to workouts and to stay consistent on your fitness journey.
Celebrate All of Your Accomplishments
No matter how big or small, it is important to celebrate all of your accomplishments. This keeps you motivated to keep going and to work even harder the next day.
Make a New Playlist
Music is such a huge motivator when it comes to getting in a good workout. The next time that you are trying to talk yourself out of working out, pop in those ear buds and put on some good music. This will get you pumped up and ready to get your workout on.
Get Yourself Some New Workout Gear
When you look good, you feel good. I know personally, whenever I get some new workout clothes, I get excited to put them on and get a good workout in.
Negative thoughts are a huge contributor to lack of motivation and self-doubt when it comes to fitness. The next time you catch yourself thinking off all the reason why you can’t workout, try to change your mindset and come up with reasons why you want to workout instead. A positive mindset is a very powerful thing. I think most people underestimate the power of positive thoughts. Try it out for yourself, the next time you feel like you can’t do something just keep repeating over and over again in your head “I can do this, I got this” and before you know it, you’ve done it!
Try Something New
I have found that one main reason that I lose motivation to workout is simply because of boredom. I am huge fan of at-home workout DVDs, but once I master a DVD and start to get bored, I know that it’s time to mix things up and try something new. The same goes for any kind of workout whether it be in the gym or at home. Find a workout that really ignites you and keeps you coming back for more. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Sometimes it just takes a little change of scenery to keep the motivation going.
Let me know what’s working for you! I’d love to know. Happy workouts everyone! 🙂
