Are you looking for ways to create a healthier you? Here are some healthy habits that will help to improve your life both physically and mentally.
Drink More Water
One way to improve your overall well-being is to stay hydrated by drinking more water. Water helps to detox our body, improve our skin, and keeps our body functioning properly. To reap the benefits of this daily habit even more, add some lemon to your water. Check out this post to learn all of the major benefits of a daily glass of lemon water.
Be More Active
Exercise helps to improve your mood, it gives you energy, decreases stress, and keeps you physically fit. Exercise and regular physical activity help to improve both mental and physical well-being. Exercising doesn’t necessarily mean working out. Exercise is anything that gets you moving, and gets your blood pumping. This can be walking, gardening, swimming, cleaning your house, etc. Do whatever makes you feel good, creating that feeling of wanting to come back for more.
Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep everyday
Sleep plays such a huge role in our health. I think many people take for granted the power that sleep has over our bodies. By getting seven to eight hours of sleep your immune system improves, you think more clearly, you have more energy, and your bodies hormones stay properly regulated. This allows your body to function properly. Overall, you lead a more productive life when you are well rested.
Cut Out Processed Foods
Processed foods play a huge role in the way we feel. All of the added chemicals and sugars in processed foods weigh you down and lead to that sluggish, tired feeling that you get after eating. Try swapping out some of your normal processed food snacks for some healthy fruit or vegetable options. My rule of thumb is, if I can’t pronounce the ingredients listed I shouldn’t eat it.
Stay Away From Refined Carbs & Added Sugars
As time has gone on, more and more research has been done to prove just how unhealthy refined carbs and added sugars are for our body. An example of this would be the white breads, pastas, and cookies that we eat. It has been found that these types of foods are actually a huge contributor to the massive heart disease problem that we have in our world today. I know it may be hard to cut out these types of foods all together, but it is definitely a good practice to either eat these foods in moderation or to swap them out for the whole grain alternative (but try to still consume them only in moderation). Refined carbohydrates and simple sugars are rapidly absorbed into our bloodstream and cause dangerous spikes in both our blood sugar and insulin levels. This process plays such a huge role in many of our common health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.
Wash your hands
You make think that this one is obvious, but it truly is overlooked. You would be amazed by how many people do not wash their hands regularly, even after going to the bathroom. The number one way to prevent sickness and to stop the spread of disease is simply by washing your hands. Encourage others to do this around you as well, because in the end it is a win-win for everyone.
Self-Care plays such a huge role in our state of well-being. In order to best take care of others, we need to take care of ourselves. Self-Care can be any activity where you take the time for yourself to really relax and nurture your own body or mind. Here are some self-care ideas that may work for you..
