Today I want to talk about some of my own tips and tricks when it comes to eye shadow. I absolutely love eye shadow palettes. Over the years I have learned a few tricks that help to make the most of all of my different eye shadow colors.
Long Lasting Eye Shadow
Eye shadow primer is a must when it comes to a long lasting makeup look. Primers work to lay the perfect foundation for your eye shadow. This allows the eye shadow to adhere to your eyelid longer and it prevents your eye shadow from creasing. Here are a few of my favorite primers…
MAC’s Pro Longwear Paint Pot
The Pro Longwear Paint Pot is a long-wearing cream shadow. This product is great because you can either wear it alone or as an eye shadow base. It comes in 26 different shades, so you can find the color that matches the best with your skin tone. I use the color “groundwork” and it works perfectly as both a stand-alone color and base. I usually apply this with a small eye shadow brush, but I have also applied it with my finger as well. Either way works just fine. I use the paint pot all of the time and it has lasted years!
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer
This product is hands down, my favorite multi-tasking makeup product of all time. Although this product is meant to be a concealer, it works perfectly as an eye shadow base as well. This product is my favorite concealer of all time. It is super pigmented, long lasting and water-proof. I glide this on to my eye lids prior to applying eye shadow and my eye shadow lasts all night long. A little bit of this product goes a long way, so it is super long lasting as well.
Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion
Urban decay’s primer works wonderfully as well. It is advertised as a 24-hour wear primer. I cannot say whether or not it lasts that long, as I have not gone a full 24 hours without washing my makeup off. However, I have worn it during a 12-hour shift at work and it has lasted me that long. The primer potion is a cream formula as well. It provides a nice smooth base for eye shadow application, and it prevents creasing. Urban decay makes this product in a few different colors, depending on what type of base you would like. I like that this product comes with a wand for application. You can simply glide the wand over your eyelid and then go in with either your finger or a brush to blend it out. It is super simple!
Pigment & Color
When it comes to making the most out of your eye shadow pigments and color, my secret weapon is a white eye shadow base. Just as any color shows up better on white paper, eye shadow will show up fully pigmented and true to color with a white base as well. My favorite white eye shadow base to use is the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in the color “Milk”. The jumbo eye pencils are cream based and smooth over your eye lid very nicely. I apply this after I apply primer and it allows my eye shadow color to really pop.
Here are some of my favorite eye shadow palettes in regards to colors and pigments…
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette is hands down one the best palettes for both color and pigment. If you love red, pink, and brown tones, you will love this palette. The pigment is absolutely incredible. You barely have to touch your brush to the eye shadow to pick up the color.
Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette
This palette by Kat Von D is my favorite matte eye shadow palette. The eye shadow is very high quality and the colors are all beautiful matte shades. This palette is perfect for your everyday look.
Urban Decay Naked Palettes
All of the naked palettes by Urban Decay are beautiful. However, I have found that I really love the naked2 and naked3 palettes. Naked2 gives you the perfect range of gold, browns, and silvers. Naked3 gives you the perfect range of gold and rose-hued tones. In both palettes, all of the colors blend very well together and the pigments are great. You really can’t go wrong with these palettes.
