I am all for short, effective workouts that really make me work hard and that deliver results. That is why I want to share with you some of my favorite workouts that I do at home, that only take me thirty minutes or less!
One of the biggest excuses that we hear from people when it comes to working out is “I don’t have time”. Well I have good news for you; with these workouts you only need about thirty minutes out of your day. Another added bonus is you can complete all of these workouts in the comfort of your own home.
Pure Barre Flex Series: 30 Minute Burn
Pure Barre has a 30 minute burn DVD series that I have absolutely fallen in love with. There is a volume 1 and volume 2 to this series. Each DVD comes with two 30 minute total body workouts. I have both DVDs and each one of these workouts is equally challenging. These workouts take you through exercises that will tone your arms, seat, thighs, and abs.
Let me tell you, by the end of these workouts I am definitely feeling the pure barre shake and burn. If you love a good barre workout, I definitely recommend giving these ones a try. The only equipment that you need for these workouts is an exercise mat, a set of light hand weights (2-5 lbs), and a stable support or wall for balance.
21 Day Fix
The 21 Day Fix program developed by Beachbody’s Autumn Calabrese is another one of my favorites. The 21 Day Fix is great because it comes with 7 different 30 minute workouts. Each workout focuses on a different part of your body, providing you with a very balanced, total body workout program.
For this workout program, you will need an exercise mat and hand weights (I use a 5 pound and 10 pound set). However, you can use resistance bands instead of weights.
Here is a run down of what the 21 Day Fix delivers:
Upper Fix: A workout targeting your chest, back, shoulders, arms & abs
Lower Fix: Total lower body workout
Total Body Cardio Fix: Cardio intervals that deliver a total body workout
Cardio Fix: Cardio intervals that get your heart pumping
Pilates Fix: Pilates inspired workout to stretch your muscles and to strengthen your core.
Yoga Fix: A recovery day workout to improve balance, flexibility, and strength.
Dirty 30: 4 rounds of total body interval training
21 Day Fix Nutrition
The 21 Day Fix also comes with a nutrition program based around portion control. When you order this program, you will also receive the colored-coded containers that go along with the nutrition system. Each color correlates with a different type of food and the container is meant to provide you with the correct portion size of that food group.
Blue: Healthy Fats & Cheese
Orange: Seeds & Oils
However, I personally have not used the nutrition part of this program, so I cannot say whether or not I feel it is effective. The workouts on the other hand, I can fully support and highly recommend to anyone looking for a quick and effective workout. Beach Body also has a 21 Day Fix Extreme that I am looking forward to trying. I will let you know how I like that one once I give it a try.
22 Minute Hard Corps
22 Minutes Hard Corps is another great BeachBody program, developed by Tony Horton. These workouts are quick and intense. These workouts are great for a day when you are really pinched for time, because they only take 22 minutes! These workouts are military inspired and as BeachBody advertises, they are meant to get you “boot camp fit”. The moves in these workouts are very basic, but effective.
This program provides you with 8 different workouts:
Resistance 1: 5 moves with 3 back-to-back rounds
Cardio 1: 7 different cardio moves that provide great calorie burn
Core 1: 10 move back, abs, and obliques workout
Resistance 2: More strengthening resistance moves in 3 rounds
Cardio 2: 3 rounds of heart pumping cardio moves
Core 2: Same as core 1 but double the reps
Resistance 3: Added plyometric strength training
Cardio 3: 3 rounds of cardio floor work and plyo moves
You will also use hand weights and an exercise mat for some of these workouts. I would recommend this program if you enjoy body weight training and cardio workouts. Disclaimer: If you hate burpees, you may not enjoy some of these workouts. 😉
This program is designed to be an 8 week workout program, but I used it intermittently to mix in with some of my other workouts. I love using these workouts on days when I am a little short on time. Sometimes I also use these as a cardio warm up and then finish with something more low impact like barre, pilates, or yoga.
I hope this helps you to find a workout program that you can fit into your busy schedule. Just remember, the best investment that you will make in life is in yourself. Find those thirty minutes a day to invest in you, and you will be sure to reap the benefits for the years to come.
