Beginners To Barre
For those of you who do not know anything about barre, I will explain to you a little bit about what it entails. Barre Workouts are ballet inspired workouts with a fusion of Yoga, Pilates, and strength training. The whole idea behind barre workouts is isometric strength training in order to work your muscles until you reach a point of “muscle fatigue”. This is why in barre workouts, you know you are doing something right when your muscles are at their shaking point. With these workouts, you will be doing holds of different poses mixed in with high reps of other small muscle movements. These programs are great to mix into your workout routine as they are relatively low-impact and they work some of your smaller, harder to reach muscles groups.
The reason barre workouts have become so popular recently is due to the fact that you start to see results so quickly. Also, these workouts are perfect for busy schedules. The DVD programs that I am going to introduce to you range from 10 to 60 minutes. These programs are super easy to fit into even the busiest of schedules!
Most people start to see results in as little as 4 weeks when they are consistent (doing the exercise program about 3 days per week). Barre gives you that toned but yet still feminine looking physique that women crave! Personally, I have been addicted to these workouts ever since being introduced to them. I have seen amazing results and my body has changed in ways that I never thought was possible! I love to work out at home so I will introduce to you my favorite barre DVD workouts and online programs that I use.
Suzanne Bowen – BarreAmped
This is a great place for new beginners to start. Suzanne Bowen is an awesome instructor and does a great job explaining proper form while also giving you a great workout. She has a couple different DVD options to pick from. For beginners I would start with her original BarreAmped DVD (the pink one). This DVD is great for explaining the basics. Also, she gives you beginner modifications and advanced options for when you get stronger.
Then, once you become more advance, her BarreAmped Fire Extreme Sculpt is an awesome work out that will really push you and get you the results that you want. All of the BarreAmped DVDs are great because they are broken up into sections. This gives you the option of either doing the entire (about 1 hour) workout or just targeting one specific area of your body with just a portion of the workout (about 15 minutes). Either way, these workouts will definitely make you work. You will be getting your “shake” on before you know it.
Pure Barre is one of the bigger barre franchises that has continued to grow in popularity. If you are the type of person who prefers to go to a live class setting, definitely give this a try. Pure Barre studios have been spreading like wild fire across the country. Every time I go to a new city I feel like I see a new Pure Barre studio.
Pure Barre gives you a true total body workout. It iss great because it utilizes different equipment (a weighted ball, double tubing, pilates ring, platforms, ect.) in order to keep things interesting. I have done both the live class setting and the at-home DVD workouts, and both are equally challenging.
There are many different DVD options that can you buy on the Pure Barre website. Most of the work outs are about 45 minutes long. There are also a few that give you 30 minute options or a break down of 10 minute workouts that you can do alone or combine together. They also sell streaming versions of the workouts, which is great if you are a traveler and want something that is easy to do when you are on the go. For the most part, the Pure Barre workouts contain the following sections: high-energy warm-up, arm sculpting, thigh toning, seating lifting, ab flattening, and a cool down stretch. If you are consistent with these workouts, I promise you will start to see results. I know I have!
Physique 57 is one of my favorite barre workouts. Not only are these workouts high energy and fun, but they are also very challenging. As the physique 57 website explains, it’s not easy but that’s exactly why it works. I have the 30-minute DVD workouts and I feel that they are just perfect. The workout goes quick enough that you don’t feel over worked, but it’s also challenging enough that you feel like you worked hard enough.
Most of the Physique 57 workouts contain arm toning exercises, an intense thigh and seat section, an abdominal section, and yoga-like stretching. Some of these workouts use small hand weights and a playground ball, which makes it a little more interesting. For the most part though, all you need is a counter top or back of a sturdy chair to hold on to. You can essentially do these work outs anywhere.
This program also has an on demand section available on the Physique 57 website if you want to take them on the go. These workouts will give you the body that you always wanted and they are super easy to fit into your busy schedule. What more could you ask for?
Barre3 is one of the newest barre programs to me. I have been doing these programs for a couple months now, and I am obsessed! I am so glad that I decided to give these workouts a try. Not only do I love the workouts themselves, but I also love the entire Barre3 brand.
I purchased the online version of these workouts. So basically I pay fifteen dollars per month and I have hundreds of different workouts to pick from. You are able to pick from a library of 10, 30, 40, or 60-minute workouts. I love this, because now I will never get bored with Barre3. I stream these workouts on my laptop and I can do them almost anywhere.
You need equipment for some of these workouts. Every workout is different but some of them incorporate a ball, small hand weights, resistance band, chair, and/or a yoga mat. They also have different workouts to pick from that do not require props, making them very travel-friendly. Overall, these exercises will help you to build strength and flexibility for improved posture and balance.
The Barre3 approach is centered on three pillars: exercise, nourish, and connect. I love how Barre3 incorporates whole-body health, helping you to feel amazing both inside and out. As stated on the Barre3 website “it’s about nourishing your body and making connections in order to lead a balanced and happier life”. Barre3 workouts are not only about getting results, but feeling good as well. Barre3 has a blog called B3 magazine where they provide amazing articles on exercise, healthy living, healthy recipes, and more. I read their blog often and I highly recommend it!
