In our world today, it is hard to stay productive. There are so many distractions and opportunities to get sidetracked. It is almost like you spend most of your time going “where did all my time go?” I know I’ve had those moments where I stop and think, I have been running around all day but what exactly did I get accomplished? Overtime, I have found that there are a couple different things that help me to have a more productive day.
Before you go to bed at night, take a couple minutes to plan out your next day. Think about the things that you want to get done and right them down. I have found that I am much more likely to get things done when I have a game plan already written out for myself.
I am a strong believer in to-do lists. There is something so gratifying about being able to checks things off of a to-do list. If I make myself a written out to-do list and place it somewhere that I can see, it is amazing the things that I can get done in a day. It really cuts down on your distractors because you don’t have to take the time to think about what you need to do next.
Working in Smaller Time Frames
Spend shorter amounts of time on tasks, but make a promise to yourself that you will keep this routine consistent. I have found that when I devote thirty minutes to a task, but continue to do it daily, I get so much more done than I would have if I tried to do it all at once. It is not as overwhelming when you work this way and it keeps you from becoming burnt out.
The most productive and accomplished people in this world all have something in common, they set goals for themselves. It is important to set mini goals. This means taking the time to think about what small strides (or mini goal) you need to accomplish in order to achieve your end goal. Be sure to make your mini goals measurable and attainable so that you stay motivated along the way. For example, for someone who is trying to lose twenty pounds, it would make sense to set a mini goal of losing a couple pounds a week. This way, the goals are more attainable. Also, don’t be afraid to celebrate your accomplishments along the way!
Get a Good Night’s Sleep
You will always be your most productive self when you are well rested. I know a lot of people feel that the easiest thing to do in order to provide them with more time in the day is to cut down on their sleep, but really this is not a good habit. When you get those good quality 7 to 8 hours of sleep, you are able to do your best work and make the most out your time. I have found personally, that when I cut back on my sleep, I am not able to focus as well and all I think about is taking a nap! Who gets any good work done like that?
